While I want to get the Tambu Lounge podcast up and running, I’m all about supporting other podcasts that have inspired me in the podcast world as well as in my other interests.
Hauntcast is one of those.
It is obvious that my love of Halloween is all over this blog. Hauntcast is the definitive podcast for home haunters (those of us who decorate our yards/houses for the big day in October). Actually, I should say “was”. Chris Baker, the host, had to stop production on his show because he was not making any money. Now, in the podcast world, that isn’t unheard of. The issue was that Chris and many of the show contributors are victims of this horrible economy (Thanks George W). This was one of the most professionally produced podcasts out there. Two hours of segments with plenty of professional V.O. work. It was amazing.
Chris had hung up the dungeon keys in November. People missed it. Missed it and bugged the hell out of him to bring it back. Obviously not understanding what it took to put the show together each month (time) and their financial need to keep a house over their heads and food on the table and clothes on their backs.
About a week ago Chris said that he would bring it back based on a subscription basis.
He threw out the price point of $100 for a year of shows.
It sounded steep to me. I loved the show, but I couldn’t afford to drop $100 all at once for a 2 hour show.
But then things started happening. Vendors started stepping up to offer discounts on their services and wares. Many also donated things to go into a raffle for the subscribers… we are talking things worth several hundred dollars. Chris and his buddy, Johnny Thunder, announced a second show. Then they announced a magazine (2 issues a year).
Breaking it all down (2 shoes, a magazine, and thousands of dollars available in discounts), the $100 didn’t seem so bad. But it was still a lot to drop at once.
Along comes PayPal’s ”BillMeLater” with a promo. 6 months no interest financing on a purchase of $99 or more. THIS I COULD DO!
It comes out to about $16.66 a month as long as it is paid off by September. I can easily do that (and pay it off earlier).
Again, go download some of the old episodes. Give it a listen. If you agree that it is as awesome as I think, go pony up the money and get this thing going again. Again $16.66 a month… that is like 2 beers at the ballpark. You can do this. I could. The BillMeLater promo is only good until February 29. So don’t delay. You don’t have to pay anything right now either. Just do your monthly installment when you get the $$ and you are good to go!
