Amazon Kindle Fire- Preorder $199

Wow.  It was rumored and now seems to be true.  Amazon’s incredible update to their Kindle… the Kindle Fire!

My wife has a Kindle and loves it.  I love it too (don’t tell her), but it just didn’t do quite as much as I would like for it too.  I’m a fan of the iPad as well (don’t own one).  It doesn’t do as much as I’d like either.

The Kindle Fire may be the thing.

Amazon just signed a release with Fox for streaming.  Makes a whole lot of sense that they would want a portable device to put this on… and a device that would tie back to their eBook store, music store, and all other services.

Specs look good too.  7 inch display.  Wifi.  Color.

And just in time for Christmas.

Price — $199!  Really?  $199?

Me thinks the iPad is going to take a hit this shopping season.

Netflix Changes, Facebook Changes, Avatar coming to Disney Parks, and REM breaks up- what a week

Reed Hastings personally sent me an email earlier in the week to say that he’s sorry for the way the price changes were handled.  But it wasn’t much of an apology since he only did it to say “and now for the rest” and proceeded to tell me that he is going to make using his service even harder by splitting up DVD by mail and Streaming into 2 companies… and with 2 websites.  Thanks, Reed.  You used to pride yourself on making the user experience great.  Now, it is hard.  But I guess this will make it easier to sell off the DVD by mail service.

Disney decides to take bring the Na’vi from Avatar to the parks.  But they really don’t say anything more than they are going to put it at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.  My guess is that they decided to make the partnership announcement to avoid any leaks (cause it was going to happen… Star Tours II / Fantasyland anyone??).  I guess I’m looking forward to whatever they do in 5-6 years.  What I find the most interesting is that James Cameron was involved with the development of T2:3D up I-4 at Universal Studios Orlando.  That attraction is on its last legs.  No one saw this coming.  Much like the Marvel acquisition.

Then my buddy Mark Zuckerberg decided that he needed some love too and implemented weird changes to the Facebook UI.  He didn’t tell anyone about this, though.  I’m sure he messed with privacy settings again too.  He likes to keep that a secret as well.  Facebook is strong because people don’t want to disconnect with their “friends” and move to another service.  I think it is a timebomb of privacy concerns waiting to happen (BTW- like this post at the bottom.. thanks!)

Not to be left out, REM announce that they are breaking up.  I don’t really know what this means.  Their last few albums have been weak.  And they haven’t really put out a lot of stuff either.  Maybe this was just to stop the major fans from asking about the next project.  Maybe it was just to start building anticipation for a reunion tour in a few years.  With the boys from Athens the best.  Your music was a big part of my teenage and college years.

And holy cow… it is only Wednesday!

Doc Brown Shilling

Doc Brown Shilling

This commercial is great.  Makes me long for a 4th installment of Back to the Future.  But not too much… it would probably be horrible.  I’d rather them do a Number 4 than do a remake/reimagining/retelling/poop-in-the-toilet that I just know some Universal Exec is thinking about.  And Zemeckis… no motion capture either!

The Muppets: The Pig with the Froggy Tattoo

The Muppets: The Pig with the Froggy Tattoo

The parody trailers for the new Muppet Movie are getting a little old.  I love the Muppets and they have always parodied different things.  These trailers are getting old, though.  I liked the first one that played out like a romantic comedy.  If the others stayed in that same line (presenting the film as another genre), then I’d be fine with them.  Instead they are simply basing the trailer off of another specific movie’s trailer.. not just the genre.

This one may be my favorite out of the latest bunch (Hangover 2, Green Lantern, and the Girl with a Dragon Tattoo).

Still… not necessary.  Halloween is coming up.  Do a horror movie parody.  Don’t do a specific horror movie parody.

And I hope that all of these trailers aren’t giving too much away.

Behind the Scenes of Trick ‘r Treat’s Sam Going Back to School Short

I’m pretty sure that writer-director Mike Dougherty and I would get along.  Sam’s lair was decorated with stuff that Mike had in his garage.

Thoughts on the Scarlett Johansson Leaked Nudes Pictures

I have mixed thoughts on the Scarlett Johansson pictures and the whole situation behind them.

First and foremost, I don’t care who you are, if you take nude pics of yourself, you run the risk of them getting out. It could be an accident on your part, a former boyfriend/girlfriend seeking revenge, etc. If you are a celeb, you are definitely a target. This was a dumb thing to do.

Secondly, I don’t condone the action of hacking her account, but there are measures one can take to minimize the possibility of this happening. Was it as secure as it could have been? I don’t know. If she had easy to guess passwords and the like, again… her fault.

Thirdly, I guess if you are in that situation you have 3 options. The first is that old standby “Deny, Deny, Deny”. That can work to an extent since some pictures aren’t very clear and there are a lot of people that may resemble someone else. In this case, they were pretty clear… or so I was told…

The other option would be to say “that’s me” and move on. People will forget about it shortly. Remember, the Kardashians, Lohan, or Paris Hilton will do something stupid to get the focus back on them.

The third option, and the one that she appears to have chosen (or more likely, “her people” chose) is to get lawyers involved and also the authorities. I don’t necessarily disagree with getting the authorities in on this. A crime was committed. They need to investigate. But her lawyers need to take a little lesson in Internet Tubes 101.

“The highly personal and private photographs at issue capture our client self-posing in her own home in a state of undress and/or topless. If you fail to comply, you will be acting at your own peril.”

What they are saying is “We confirm that these are nude pictures of Scarlett Johansson.  We are also going to go after you because we are going to rid the internets of these pictures”.

Guess what?  The pictures may disappear from one site, but they are going to be up on another… and another… and another.  They will never disappear and there is nothing you can do about it.

And as far as the FBI goes… I’m sure agents are going to pull rank so that they can get this assignment.   So they can take a very close look at the stolen pics… a very close look… and round up as many other nude celebrity pictures as they can for evidence.

It is unfortunate that this happened, but she made the decision to take the pics herself.  And as that old saying goes, any publicity is good publicity.  She should be more concerned if the pics came out and no one cared.  That would be indicative that her career was over.

Tarantino vs Coen Brothers

Tarantino vs Coen Brothers from Leandro Copperfield.

The guy who mashed all of these up watched just about all of the films put out by Tarantino and the Coen Brothers over a 10 day span.  The result is this montage of 500 scenes and a few songs.  Awesome work.  Great tribute to 2 sets of my favorite filmmakers.
